Female infertility causes don’t have to stop you from having a baby
Midwest Fertility Specialists (MFS) treats many female infertility causes. Before moving forward with treatment, our Indiana infertility specialists need to determine what is causing a woman’s fertility issues. From PCOS to endometriosis, our team understands how to help patients overcome these fertility issues.
Exploring common female infertility causes
Our Indiana infertility specialists take pride in finding an accurate diagnosis, even in the most complex cases. We realize that each woman has different fertility needs and goals, as well as a different infertility diagnosis. Here is an overview of the most common female infertility causes.
- Age-related infertility is appearing more often, as more women are waiting to start their families. Egg quality and quantity decline over time, so it can be more difficult to naturally achieve pregnancy and have a healthy baby when a woman reaches her late-30s to early-40s.
- Endometriosis affects many women. The condition causes the uterine lining to implant and grow where it shouldn’t. If untreated, endometriosis can lead to scarring, infertility and implantation failure.
- Ovulatory disorders are quite common among women who are struggling to conceive. These disorders cause women to ovulate infrequently or not at all. One example is polycystic ovary syndrome, or PCOS.
- Structural issues can range from blocked or damaged fallopian tubes, to uterine abnormalities. Issues in the fallopian tubes can prevent the sperm and egg from meeting or prevent the fertilized egg from reaching the uterus. In comparison, uterine abnormalities can lead to issues with embryo implantation.
Some patients may also experience unexplained infertility. This occurs when diagnostic testing does not reveal an exact infertility cause. Although this diagnosis can be frustrating, many of these patients are still able to have a baby using fertility treatments.
Overcoming the causes of infertility with help from the right treatments
Our Indiana infertility specialists perform comprehensive diagnostic testing to identify female infertility causes in each patient. If applicable, they will also review the male partner’s medical history and order a semen analysis, as male infertility contributes to at least 50% of cases.
After receiving the test results, our doctors review them with each patient and discuss which fertility treatments are likely to be effective. The goal is to start with the most basic and affordable option, before moving to a more advanced treatment.
