Getting pregnant when facing age-related female infertility is possible
The skilled doctors at our Indiana fertility center regularly help women bypass age-related female infertility. We help women achieve a healthy pregnancy after 40 by using a combination of compassionate, customized fertility care, comprehensive diagnostic testing, and high-quality donor eggs in some cases.
The potential causes of age-related female infertility
There are various reasons someone might experience female infertility due to age. As such, our Indiana fertility center specialists work to reach the right diagnosis. They do so by analyzing each patient’s health history and utilizing bloodwork and ultrasounds. In some cases, our team uses nonsurgical tests like a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) or minimally invasive fertility surgery. Testing can reveal which of the common causes of age-related infertility is at play.
Diminished egg quality and quantity. A woman’s egg quality and quantity decline in her 30s, and significantly drop after age 37. When she reaches 40, she has less than a 5% chance of conceiving each cycle. This can lead to the need for certain fertility treatments like IVF, preimplantation genetic testing (PGT-A) or donor eggs.
Chromosomal abnormalities. Age-related female infertility can also be the result of chromosomal abnormalities. This issue may cause women to develop an aneuploid embryo, which means it has too many or too few chromosomes. This type of embryo rarely develops into a pregnancy. However, if it does, it can lead to a miscarriage or birth defects.
After we help a woman discover why she’s having difficulty conceiving a healthy pregnancy, we support her in creating an effective treatment plan.
Treatment for age-related fertility challenges
If testing reveals that a woman is experiencing female infertility due to age, the doctor can recommend one or more fertility treatments. These treatments help many women move beyond fertility barriers and fulfill their dream of parenthood.
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is one of the most effective treatment options. An IVF cycle consists of the woman taking ovulation induction medications while receiving regular monitoring at our clinic. When enough of her eggs mature, she has an egg retrieval procedure. An embryologist then fertilizes the eggs with sperm from the woman’s male partner or a sperm donor. The doctor then transfers one of the resulting embryos to her uterus.
Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT-A) can help ensure the doctor transfers a chromosomally normal IVF embryo. This involves an embryologist performing a very safe trophectoderm embryo biopsy on the woman’s embryos to determine which are euploid, or chromosomally normal.
Premium donor eggs can help if a woman is not able to conceive after IVF with PGT-A. Donor eggs can often lead to a healthy pregnancy. We connect women facing age-related female infertility with healthy women between the ages of 21 and 30 who have undergone comprehensive screening.
The knowledgeable team at our Indiana fertility center understands the struggles of infertility. We walk women through each step of the journey, from discovering the cause of fertility challenges to taking home a healthy baby.
